Non-medical services are typically private pay; many long-term care insurance policies reimburse for them, and we provide the documentation your carrier requires.
Why we ask for longer visits
Families sometimes ask why we don't offer 1–2 hour visits. Our answer, honestly: very short visits shortchange everyone.
- Care without a stopwatch. Six hours lets one caregiver help with bathing and dressing, cook a real meal, do the laundry, run an errand, and still have time to actually sit and talk.
- Better caregivers, less turnover. Fair, predictable shifts attract experienced professionals — and the same familiar face showing up matters enormously, especially in dementia care.
- Dependable coverage for you. A 6-hour block gives working families a real window of relief, not a rushed drop-in.
That said, six hours is a standard, not an absolute. Coming out of a hospital or rehab stay is different — the need is often intense but short, and the family is still finding its footing. For those situations we offer a 4-hour post-discharge block at $44/hour. And for rides alone, our transportation service is quoted per trip with no minimum at all.

How do I find out exactly what my care will cost?

Does insurance cover non-medical home care in Massachusetts?
Non-medical care is typically private pay. Many long-term care insurance policies reimburse for it — we provide invoices and care logs in the format your carrier requires. We do not bill health insurance directly.
Are there contracts, deposits, or cancellation fees?
There are no deposits, no enrolment fees and no long-term contracts. We ask for 48 hours' notice to change or cancel a scheduled visit so we can give the caregiver fair warning. The exact terms are confirmed in the written service agreement before care begins.
How much does 24-hour or live-in home care cost?
Westmark's 24-hour, live-in care is $816 per day. If hourly coverage fits your schedule better, companion care starts at $34/hour and personal care at $38/hour, both with a six-hour standard minimum. Request a free quote and we'll recommend the most cost-effective option for your situation.
What's the difference between home care and home health care?
Home care (what Westmark provides) is non-medical support — bathing, dressing, meals, housekeeping, medication reminders, mobility help and companionship. Home health care is a separate, clinical service delivered by nurses or therapists for skilled needs like wound care, injections or physical therapy, usually ordered by a doctor and sometimes covered by Medicare. If you need skilled care, we'll say so honestly and help you find the right provider.
Does Medicare or Medicaid pay for non-medical home care in Massachusetts?
Medicare does not cover ongoing non-medical home care. MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid) may cover some in-home personal care through specific programs for those who qualify, but Westmark is a private-pay agency and does not bill MassHealth directly — MassHealth or a case manager can confirm eligibility for state programs. Many long-term care insurance policies do reimburse for non-medical home care; we provide the documentation your policy requires.
